My Top 5 Essex Locations For A Family Photoshoot Essex

Essex has so many gorgeous spots for relaxed, natural family photos. These are my top five places that work beautifully on camera. They are easy with children (and often dogs!) and give you that “us just hanging out together” feeling rather than anything stiff or staged.

1. Blakes Wood, Chelmsford – Dreamy Bluebells & Woodland Adventures

If you love the idea of wandering through the woods with the kids exploring around you, Blakes Wood is perfect. In late spring it’s carpeted with bluebells, which makes for magical, storybook‑style images.

Even outside bluebell season, the tall trees, winding paths and dappled light are ideal for play, cuddles and those in‑between moments. Think kids collecting sticks, piggybacks and lots of play.

2. Hylands Park, Chelmsford – Classic Essex All‑Rounder

Hylands is one of my favourite all‑year‑round locations. There’s masses of space for little ones to run, beautiful tree‑lined avenues and open lawns. Plus pockets of blossom in spring that look incredible in photos.

Because there’s such variety, with formal gardens, long grass, woodland and the backdrop of Hylands House: we can get loads of different looks in one session without having to walk miles.

3. East Beach – Barefoot, Wind‑In‑Your‑Hair Fun

If your family feels most at home by the sea, East Beach is a winner. You get sand, grasses and big open skies, which all photograph beautifully and keep children entertained.

Dogs are allowed on the beach itself from October to April, so it’s brilliant for dog‑friendly shoots in the cooler months. But it works all year round for paddling, digging and relaxed, barefoot photos that feel like a day out rather than a photoshoot.

4. Hadleigh Castle – Epic Views & Sunset Magic

For families who love a bit of drama in their photos, Hadleigh Castle is hard to beat. The castle ruins, rolling hills and huge views over the Thames Estuary give a really cinematic backdrop without being too formal.

It’s especially gorgeous at sunset, when the light softens and we can get those glowing, backlit images of you all walking, playing and snuggling together against the skyline.

5. Danbury Country Park – Autumn Leaves & Quiet Corners

Danbury Country Park is beautiful all year, but it really comes into its own in autumn. The wooded areas, lakes and bridges create lots of cosy little spots for photos, and the changing leaves add rich, warm colours that flatter everyone.

It’s ideal for slower‑paced sessions, think feeding the ducks, walking through the trees and wrapping up in coats and scarves while we capture those snuggly, seasonal family moments.

Each of these locations has its own personality, and I’ll always help you choose the spot (and season) that fits your family best, whether that’s bluebells in the woods, sandy toes at the beach or golden hour on top of a hill!
