MY FAVOURITE LONDON TOWN HALLS FOR YOUR WEDDING CEREMONY

If you are planning a micro wedding or a small city celebration, a beautiful town hall is honestly one of the best starting points. They keep things simple, legal and usually budget‑friendly, while still giving you that sense of occasion – tile floors, sweeping staircases, big old doors and the kind of light that makes your photographer very happy.
These are my favourite London town halls for weddings, all of which pair perfectly with a relaxed restaurant reception, a private dining room or a chic little pub afterwards. Think of a quick “we’re actually married” moment, then off for cocktails, photos and a joyful dinner with your favourite people.

1. WOOLWICH TOWN HALL, GREENWICH
Need to know:
Woolwich, SE London
Best for: Grand interiors without central London chaos
Reasons to love:
Woolwich Town Hall is one of those places where people are genuinely surprised by the first time they walk in. From the outside, it looks nice enough. Inside, it is all sweeping marble, painted ceilings, arches and that glorious light you get from historic civic buildings. It feels properly “wedding‑y” in the best possible way, but without the tourist crowds you get in more central spots.
If you are planning a micro wedding, this is where you can lean into the romance of a grand setting while keeping the guest list tiny. The ceremony rooms feel impressive but not overwhelming, so whether you have 10 guests or 40, it still feels like the right scale. It is also brilliant if you want those stately, architectural photos on the stairs and balconies, then to disappear off for a low‑key reception somewhere cosier.
Pair it with:
A riverside or Greenwich/Blackheath restaurant for a relaxed, food‑first celebration or sky‑high dinner at somewhere like Aqua Shard to contrast the old‑school interiors with full modern London skyline views

2. CHELSEA OLD TOWN HALL
Need to know:
King’s Road, SW
Best for: Iconic London steps and that “we did it in Chelsea” feeling
Reasons to love:
Chelsea Old Town Hall is the one you have seen all over Instagram, and it is popular for a reason. The steps, the doors, the confetti shots – it all just works. If you like the idea of walking out into a little crowd of your favourite people, having a quick confetti moment on the pavement and then wandering down the King’s Road, this is very much your place.
Inside, the ceremony rooms manage to feel both classic and warm. There is enough grandeur to make it feel like a big moment, but it never tips into stuffy or over‑formal. It is brilliant for couples who want a chic, central‑ish London setting without feeling like they are getting married in a tourist attraction.
The area around it is also packed with options for post‑ceremony drinks and dinner: cosy pubs, elegant restaurants, tucked‑away private dining rooms. You can keep everything walkable, which always makes the day feel more relaxed and joined‑up.
Pair it with:
The Ivy Chelsea Garden for that pretty, indoor‑outdoor glasshouse vibe or a stylish local pub or members‑club‑style bar for a cocktail‑heavy, low‑fuss evening

3. ISLINGTON TOWN HALL
Need to know:
Upper Street, N
Best for: Laid‑back couples who still want a bit of drama
Reasons to love:
Islington Town Hall has such a good balance of character and ease. The circular Council Chamber is the star that curved seating, the wood panelling, the light from above – it all gives your ceremony a bit of drama without feeling overly formal. For smaller weddings, some of the more intimate rooms work beautifully too, especially if you want a cosy, “everyone right there with us” atmosphere.
The location is one of the biggest perks. Step outside and you are right on Upper Street, which is full of restaurants, bars, pubs and little corners for photos. You can head straight to your favourite neighbourhood spot for a long lunch, or sneak off down side streets for more relaxed portraits away from the traffic.
If you are the kind of couple who wants the day to feel easy, no long transfers, no complicated logistics but you still care about your ceremony feeling special and intentional, Islington is a very strong contender.
Pair it with:
A nearby gastropub with a private room upstairs for that “at home, but not at home” energy or a local restaurant you already love, turning it into your unofficial wedding HQ for the afternoon.

4. CAMDEN TOWN HALL
Need to know:
King’s Cross / St Pancras, WC
Best for: City‑chic couples and anyone travelling into London by train
Reasons to love:
Camden Town Hall is an excellent choice if you want your London wedding to feel urban and connected, without losing the beauty of a traditional town hall. The refurbished spaces are bright and elegant, with big windows, period details and that clean, classic backdrop that works with almost any style from minimal and modern to full florals and colour.
One of the huge advantages is the location. Being so close to King’s Cross and St Pancras makes it incredibly practical if you have guests coming in from other parts of the UK or even abroad. They can literally step off the train, cross the road and be at your wedding. For a micro wedding or elopement, this can make the whole day feel like an easy city escape rather than a big production.
You are also spoiled for choice when it comes to what happens afterwards. Whether you want a slick restaurant near Granary Square, a cosy wine bar, or to hop in a cab to a private dining room in Clerkenwell or Bloomsbury, you have so many good options within ten to fifteen minutes.
Pair it with:
A cool King’s Cross restaurant for canal‑side drinks and dinner or a Clerkenwell townhouse or private dining room for a more tucked‑away, design‑led reception.

5. MARYLEBONE TOWN HALL, WESTMINSTER
Need to know:
Marylebone, Central London
Best for: Iconic London elegance with a relaxed neighbourhood feel
Reasons to love:
Marylebone Town Hall is one of those venues that feels quietly iconic. The Portland stone exterior and sweeping steps give you that classic “just married in London” moment, while inside the panelled ceremony rooms feel warm, intimate and beautifully finished. There’s a real sense of occasion without it ever tipping into stuffy or formal. The different rooms work brilliantly for micro weddings, you still get all the ceremony and atmosphere without feeling totally lost in a huge space. Step outside and suddenly you’re straight into chic Marylebone streets for portraits: red buses, black cabs, tree‑lined terraces and pretty mews corners all within a short walk. It’s perfect if you want that timeless registry office look with a touch of understated glamour.
Pair it with:
A long lunch at a Marylebone or Fitzrovia restaurant, a cosy pub reception nearby, or a short hop into Soho or Mayfair for cocktails and a late‑night, city‑lights celebration.
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR TOWN HALL
When you are trying to pick between them, think about:
1. Where you and your guests live or are travelling from.
2. What kind of backdrop you want in your photos (grand staircase, city streets, riverside, leafy squares).
3. Where you want to eat and celeb
rate afterwards – restaurant first, then pick the town hall that makes the route easy.
Once you have the ceremony nailed down, everything else, the dinner, the drinks, the portraits, the little in‑between moments can orbit around that one address. That is the beauty of a London town hall wedding; simple at its core, but with endless ways to make it feel like the two of you.
Yours Truly,
Jade B
